This is a short, safe routine drawn from reflexology principles, and developed by Lorraine Senior who has spent many years working with pupils with complex health and communication needs.
In addition, FRT may support children and adults in a variety of situations where anxiety is a major factor.
- exam preparation/SATs
- starting a new school
- anxiety disorders
- communication difficulties
- learning difficulties
Transitioning – moving from one activity to another can be difficult for some people. The one receiving is encouraged to take an active role in deciding to set up and start the routine – the session is under their control. It is most important that both giver and receiver have a clear understanding of the session.
The rainbow relaxation routine is completely non-invasive, gentle and rhythmic. It uses repetition to enable the receiver to register and accept the therapy at a deep level. It helps to promote calmness and a better frame of mind, enabling the person receiving the treatment to move onto the next activity more easily. That may be something challenging or a more low key activity which, nevertheless, has proved troublesome.
- playing with siblings
- eating lunch with the family
- going to sleep
- moving to a new lesson
- meeting new people
- going somewhere new
- going somewhere challenging eg dentist/doctor/hospital
Clare offers workshops to empower family members with the rainbow relaxation routine to use with their own family members. The two workshop sessions are set over two weeks. The first workshop runs for about 2 hours, the second about 1 ½ hours. The full relaxation routine itself takes about 20 minutes. It is as relaxing to give as to receive!
Discount applies for workshop where two or more from one family attend.
